Examination of field collected adult females suggested the presence of a morphological variant of Anopheles nuneztovari which was provisionally called morphotype II, and which differed form the typical form in the length of the humeral pale spot on the wing. Morphometric studies carried out on field collected adult females and associated rearings showed that An. nuneztovari is a highly variable species within the same geographic area. Diagnostic characters for An. nuneztovari were compared with those previously reported. Anopheles trinkae, a sister species of An. nuneztovari, is probably not present in western Venezuela.
