A list of the mosquito holotypes and paratypes housed in the collection of the Department of Medical Entomology at the South African Institute for Medical Research is given. This list includes 17 Aedes species, 1 Aedes subspecies, 11 Anopheles species, 5 Culex species, 3 Culex subspecies, 1 Mimomyia species and 1 Uranotaenia species. All pinned adults are in good condition and, in the case of the immatures, where the mounting medium has dried out the specimens are still visible on the slides.
