Among the approximately 300 mosquito species known from the Philippines, 132 species belonging to 15 genera were identified from about 5000 larval and adult specimens collected from the Philippines in 1981-82. Five species are reported from the Philippines for the first time: Armigeres pectinatus (Edwards), Culex perplexus Leicester, Topomyia auriceps Brug, Toxorhynchites kempi (Edwards) and Tx. leicesteri Theobald. In addition, 2 unknown species belonging to Cx. (Culex) sp. in mimeticus subgroup and Cx. (Culiciomyia) sp. were collected. The bionomics and taxonomy of certain species are also discussed.
