Fourteen species of Lutzomyia sand flies are recorded from North America, north of Mexico. Two of them, L apache n. sp. and L. tanyopsis n. sp. from Arizona, are described for the first time. Lutzomyia diabolica is treated as a valid species, distinct from L. cruciata. Lutzomyia vexator, having a widespread geographic distribution in North America, is considered as a monotypic taxon without subspecies.
