Heinrich travels to various locations in the United States including California, Oregon, Arizona, and Texas to examine plants for disease. Included in the notebook are schedules and itinerary information, lists of plants examined and locations, shopping lists, prose descriptions of work, and unfinished poem. In August of 1918, he travels to the vicinity of Houston, Texas, and inspects a variety of crops for insect infestation for the United States Department of Agriculture. The trip details are arranged by date, details given by location, sometimes by identified field. He visits fields in Anahuac, Double Bayou, and Lake Charlotte, Texas.
