Notes
Correspondence from Oliver R. Willis to John Torrey, dated 1843-1862, discussing a range of concerns, from botanical specimens, to acquiring materials for his teaching endeavors, to the occasional more esoteric issue. "I am requested by the Physicians of Heightstown to introduce to you the bearer Mr. Israel Pearce-- a justice of the peace, now acting as Coroner," he writes in 1844. "He has with him a Human Stomach which you are desired to examine, the reasons &c. he will give you..." Obsolete plant names mentioned include Draba verna, Empetrum conradii, Geum strictum, and Rhynchospora cymosa.
