The land east of the Pecos River in Chaves, Eddy and Lea Counties have been arbitrarily divided into six different vegetative subtypes: Riparian; Desert Shrub; Shin Oak; Mesquite; Creote; and, Grassland communities. This report focuses on Grasslands, with an emphasis on the three grass faciations in the Roswell District: Bouteloua-hilaria; Hilaria-bouteloua; and, Bouteloua-andropogan-trichachne.
