Notes
In 1946, Wetmore went to the Canal Zone Biological Area, to inspect the San Jose Project of 1944, and collect bird specimens in Darien. He was assisted by Watson M. Perrygo. Includes correspondence, photographs and photographic notes, expense records, travel notes, reference materials, and memorabilia relating to these efforts. Wetmore's collecting in the Canal Zone was done via Jaque Auxiliary Airfield and Albrook Field, Panama. Correspondence includes personal exchanges with several military members with whom he worked and their families during his collecting in the area. Additional correspondence details specific specimens, their preparation and transport; and field notes that also list related photographs taken. In addition, correspondence discusses a request for Smithsonian observers of atomic bomb testing post-world war II; passing of Smithsonian's budget; and a reference guide on Use of Insect Repellents and Miticides from USDA. Correspondents include John Enos Graf and Louise M. Pearson.
