Notes

Karl M. Waage (1915 to 1999) was a professor of geology and curator of invertebrate paleontology of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History from 1946 to 1986. In 1980 he was appointed Director of the Museum, a position he held until 1982. Waage was a paleontologist who specialized in Late Cretaceous ammonoids from the Western Interior Seaway of North America. The early part of his career was focused on work with the U.S. Geological Survey in Alabama and Maryland in search of aluminum-bauxite deposits, while in later years his attention turned to understanding the paleoenvironment of the Late Cretaceous Fox Hills Formation of South Dakota.  His greatest legacy was, however, his mentorship to dozens of students, both undergraduate and graduate who went to faculty and industry positions.
