This diary documents Nelson's field research and travels in Mexico between 9 March and 27 June 1895. Nelson travels from Pochutla in Oaxaca to San Juan Guichicovi (simply known as Guichicovi). Nelson's notes include descriptions of the route he took and vegetation of the locations he visited. Some notes also describe birds and mammals observed or collected. Nelson notes the elevations of various localities along his trip. Nelson also refers to his plant catalog for more information. Locations include but are not limited to Pochutla, the valley of Miahuatlan, Oaxaca City, near San Carlos, near Santo Domingo, and San Juan. Notes on architecture and architectural drawings are included. Notes on social customs and descriptions of people and city life are also included.
