Notes
The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in New Mexico and Texas, March 1 - April 23, 1924. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, times of day), weather, terrain, vegetation (state of growth and crops), descriptions of communities visited, interactions with colleagues and local officials, specimen collecting, notes on population of mosquitos, presence of malaria, and guano industry. The notebook indicates that he was, as an agent of the US Department Agriculture, directed to work with the National Geographic Society in their exploration of the caverns in the national park at Carlsbad, New Mexico. Many of the observations are about bats. Locations include San Antonio, Texas. Includes list of plants observed at Sierra Blanca Mountains.
