The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting mammal and bird specimens in California, North Dakota, September 8 - December 5, 1907. Entries are dated and pages are sometimes headed with location. Descriptions include travel details (mode of travel, destinations, accommodations, campsites), ranches visited, daily activities and times of day, terrain (including elevation), vegetation, lists and descriptions of mammals and birds and their habitats, descriptions and interactions with local inhabitants, the "Canadian zone", and descriptions of communities. Bailey spent significant time at Rogers Ranch. Sometimes includes extensive notations on left hand page, opposite entries. Includes a sketch and discussion of erecting fencing relating to wolves. Last portion of the notebook is blank. Locations include Arroyo Seco, Mount Islip, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Glendale, California; Lovelock, Nevada; North Yakima, Washington; Bismark, North Dakota.
