The diary was written by Richard F. Darsie, Jr. during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1959. Entries cover March 29 - May 4, 1959. Richard F. Darsie was an entomologist, specializing in the study of mosquitos, that participated in the expedition with Waldo Schmitt. Subject matter covers details about travel; daily activities; interactions and meetings with local inhabitants and colleagues working in the Caribbean and expedition participants; locations and observed mosquitos with scientific names included; outbreaks of malaria in the islands and transmission methods (includes hand drawn map); and visit to the Trinidad Virus Laboratory.
