Engraved title vignettes.

Includes 432 engraved plates, three on double plates, with unpaginated text. The plates are numbered three different ways: 1. arranged according to the Linnaean system; 2. arranged alphabetically by Latin names; 3. arranged alphabetically by English names.

Originally issued in 72 numbers, forming 6 fascicles to be bound in two vols. Vol. 1 (fasc. 1-3) contains the title page for vol. 1, two lists of subscribers, a preface, a dedication to John Stuart, Earl of Bute, descriptions of plants starting with "Veronica agrestis", indexes to each fasc. and general indexes to fasc. 1-3; vol. 2 (fasc. 4-6) contains the title page for vol. 2, a dedication to John Coakly Lettsom, descriptions of plants starting with "Hippuria vulgaris", indexes to each fasc. and general indexes to fasc. 4-6.

The plates are engraved by William Kilburn, Francis Sansom, James Sowerby, Sydenham Edwards, William Darton.

Vol. 2 has imprint: London : Printed for and sold by the author, no. 3 St. George's Crescent, Black-Friars-Road, 1778.
