Text volume on land birds to accompany colour plates etched by Selby (mostly after his own drawings) with the assistance of his brother-in-law Admiral Robert Mitford, which were first issued nineteen parts to subscribers from 1821-1833 and were subsequently bound into two folio volumes.

In this edition, Selby followed Temminck's arrangement, but changed it to Vigors's arrangement in the 2nd edition (1833)
