Manuscript composed mostly in one hand with handwritten marginal notes.

According to Manuel de Mendiburu in his "Diccionario histórico-biográfico del Perú", Martín Delgar arrived in Peru in 1744 and worked in the mining industry; he proceeded to use his surgical and botanical background to work in the interior of Peru (and modern day Bolivia) to treat the indigenous populations and to learn about herbs used in their healing.

Includes an index on p. [1-4], 3rd count, entitled "Indice de los arboles, frutos, plantas, flores, animales, aves, y de mas cosas medicinales q[u]e contiene este libro, y todo por el orden alphabetico" and another on p. [5-17], 3rd count, which is entitled "la table siguiente de los accidentes, manifiestas que sirven se remedio las yervas, arboles, rayses, animales &a. contenidos en el abecedario antecedente, con advertencia, que de cada accidente o dolor se pone concecutibamente los numeros de las joras en que se halla su medicamento por no aumentar la tabla y van divididor con dos rayas, y asi se puede in registrando joja por jora por sus respectivos numeros, hasta qu]e se halle medicamento q[u]e haya en el paiz, y que sea mas comodo"

Two other manuscripts by Delgar are known, both from around 1800 or earlier, and both with Peruvian subject matter; they are titled "Nuevo thesoro de pobres" and "Libro de medicina y cirugía para el uso de los pobres" which are held in the Obadiah Rich Collection in the New York Public Library.

On the title page "arcediano" has been crossed out and has been replaced by "dean" in a different hand and "a quien lo dedica" has been appended to the final line of original text.
