Notes
The field book documents Fielding Meek's work in Nebraska and Iowa, May 17 - July 14, 1867. Pages are numbered, and entries are dated. Includes details about weather; interactions with an Icarian community; daily activities; work with colleagues; terrain (including descriptions of bluffs); strata, formations, and characteristics of stone, sand, and clay; lists of fossils collected (per day); and cross sections. Locations are usually noted, though sometimes by the name of the property owner. There is a list of expenses in the back of the notebook for May 16 - July 27, 1867, and a list of elevations relating to the Central Division Union Pacific Railroad. Locations include the vicinity of Missouri River, Nebraska (Platte Valley, Omaha, Nebraska City), and Iowa (White Breast Creek, Peoria).
