Notes

Field notes Vol. 60 documents Nathaniel Lord Britton and others' botanical collecting in Puerto Rico in 1906 and 1914-1915 on New York Botanical Garden expeditions. The notebook is comprised of a list of specimen numbers 1-4495 (1-1462: 1906; 1463-4495: 1914-1915). Entries include genus and species, and location. Some entries include elevation. There are no dates except for one line indicating that specimens beginning with 1463 were collected in February-March 1914. The field book was originally mislabeled in the NYBG Archives database of field books, where it is listed as "Porto Rico 1921-1933, Virgin Islands 1923-1925." There are no entries for the Virgin Islands, and specimen dates from the NYBG Herbarium indicate that the Puerto Rico collections were made in 1906 and 1914-1915. The database also indicates an accompanying field book, Vol. 61, which is missing and could possibly include the later collection dates and the Virgin Islands collections. The original field books for 1906 specimen numbers 1-147 can be found in Field notes Vol. 263, numbers 146-499 and 1139-1458 in Field notes Vol. 264, and numbers 500-1138 in Field notes Vol. 258. The original field books for 1914-1915 specimen numbers 1463-3131 can be found in Field notes Vol. 265, numbers 3132-3818 in Field notes Vol. 266, numbers 3829-4495 in Field notes Vol. 267.
