The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work and travel in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, August 14 - October 21, 1933. Entries include date lists of expenses, list of destinations and possibly distances, time of day, weather, lists of plants headed with location and type of terrain (sometimes with notes), plant specimens collected, shells collected, terrain of collecting locations, results of dredging, and descriptions of communities visited. Terrain described includes several types including wetlands (swamps), lakes, creeks, rivers, and cuts in terrain.
