This folder is part of a collection of whaling records from William Henry Tripp's collection. It includes clippings of newspapers and magazines on the subject of the whaling schooner John R. Manta and its use a packet boat in the packet trade between New Bedford, Mass. and the Cape Verde Islands. An article, mounted in a folder, undated and excerpted from the magazine Yachting, is by Carlos C. Hanks and has the title "No more packets to the Cape Verdes". Inserted are: an article with many photographs, dated August 21, 1960, from the Sunday Standard Times of New Bedford, tilted "So ends..."; and a clipping from the same paper, with an article by John R. Manter titled "Cape Verde packets have a place in annals of area's sea disasters".
