Notes

Field book (divided in two folders for conservation purposes) of banding forms for field notes that are survey records on migratory birds specimens collected in Egypt for the Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey. From the finding aid (SIA RU000435): "The Palearctic Migratory Bird Survey (PMS), a survey of migratory birds, their ectoparasites and the viruses they carry, was conducted in the eastern Mediterranean from 1966 to 1971. The primary PMS operation site was in northern Egypt. Surveys were also conducted in Cyprus and Israel. The PMS involved scientists of the Smithsonian Institution, the United States Naval Medical Research Unit, and Yale University, and was funded by the Army Research Office, the Smithsonian Foreign Currency Program, and the Smithsonian Research Foundation. George E. Watson, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, and Curator, Division of Birds, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator". Surveys were also conducted in Uganda. There are five forms per leaf; they show the name of the bird species, the band number, the date and locality of capture and release, and data on sex as gathered from dissection, plumage, soft parts or other methods, on age and method of its finding (skull, plumage, soft parts, etc.), on weight, fat, molt, way of disposition (skin, skeleton, alcoholic, discarded, etc.), presence of parasites and additional remarks. The forms are dated from August 25, 1969 to august 25, 1970 and numbered 040-00092 to 040-01753, 040-02001 to 040-02348.
