Correspondence from F.E.L. Fischer to John Torrey, dated 1836-1842. The first letter, written in 1836 to accompany a catalog of seeds available from the Imperial Botanic Garden in St. Petersburg-- of which Fischer was director from 1823 to 1850-- is a standard form letter with a personal note to Torrey added. The second letter, dated 1842, accompanies a packet of seeds gathered in "the Kirgees" by A.G. Schrenck.
